Dr. Ratan Sarkar is a prominent scholar currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Education (Stage II) at the Department of Teachers’ Training (B.Ed.) at Prabhat Kumar College, an esteemed institution recognized as a "College with Potential for Excellence" under the UGC XII Plan. Established in 1926 and reaccredited by NAAC with Grade ‘A’ in 2022, and is affiliated with Vidyasagar University, West Bengal, India. In addition to his role at Prabhat Kumar College, Dr. Sarkar contributes to the field of special education as a Guest Faculty at the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, Regional Centre, Kolkata (Under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India), underscoring his commitment to enhancing educational practices and policies for individuals with disabilities.
Dr. Ratan Sarkar possesses an extensive and diverse educational background that underscores his commitment to the field of education, particularly in special education. He earned his Ph.D. in Education from Pondicherry University, focusing on the educational rights of persons with disabilities, with his thesis receiving high commendation from national and international evaluators. Prior to this, he completed an M.Phil. in Special Education at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, where his research centered on the implementation of inclusive education schemes. His academic journey includes a Master of Education in Special Education (Intellectual Disability) from the same institution, where he also achieved distinction for his dissertation on the efficacy of adapted games in developing cognitive skills among children with mild intellectual disabilities. Additionally, Dr. Sarkar is currently pursuing an M.A. in Education and Technology from the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), which further enhances his interdisciplinary approach to educational theory and practice. His foundational qualifications include a Bachelor of Education in Special Education (Intellectual Disabilities) from Jadavpur University, along with various degrees in English Language and Linguistics, Applied Psychology, and Education. In addition to his formal degrees, he has pursued numerous professional development courses, including advanced diplomas and certificates in computer applications, school administration, and research methodology, thereby enhancing his pedagogical skills and knowledge.
Dr. Sarkar's scholarly contributions have garnered significant recognition. His prolific authorship includes numerous books, book reviews, peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and contributions to conference proceedings, UK and Indian utility and design patents, all of which significantly advance the discourse in disability studies, inclusive education, and educational technology. He has successfully completed a research project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, and Dr. Sarkar is frequently invited to present at national and international conferences, where he has been awarded the "Best Paper Presentation Award" on multiple occasions.
