Physical Education and Sport Through the Centuries
Summary The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of a series of processes which a leader in sport has to design and realize. The necessity of leadership presence (guidance) in sport can be found in the dynamic polyvalent and multidisciplinary development of contemporary human society, with the added note that management is more closely related to efficiency, and leadership with effectiveness and change. Based on the partial models of the structural and organizational system of sport constructed and presented so far, and the current global analyses of sports management and marketing, quality management, information, communication, scientific and training technology, as well as the analysis of individual models and their mutual interactions, we can conclude that the transformation processes which are in sport defined by applying increasingly more modern technologies, and in the world at large take place in a continued, dynamic and intense manner in sports organizations, should l...
This paper is an investigation of performance leadership and management in elite sport. Thirteen national performance directors of Olympic sports were interviewed with regard to best practice. Four main areas were identified: vision, operations, people, and culture. The main vision issues were vision development, influences on the vision, and sharing the vision. The main operations issues were financial management, strategic competition and training planning, athlete selection for competition, and upholding rules and regulations. The main people issues were staff management, lines of communication, and feedback mechanisms. The main culture issues were establishing role awareness, and organizational and team atmosphere.
Sports leadership has evolved significantly, driven by the increasing commercialization of sports, technological advancements, and the growing complexity of global sports governance. This paper looks at the trends in today's leadership in sports and the skills needed to manage some of the emerging issues in sports. Analyzing such theories as delegation, motivation, stakeholder management, and ethical decision-making in a current organizational context, the paper contributes to understanding how leadership can enhance organizational success in the context of growing competition and globalization of the sports industry. In addition, it provides educational insights for the leadership of sports organizations and future trends in sports governance and inclusion that are relevant to the sustainable development of societies.
Management and leadership are essential to professional practice in sport organization and managerial leadership combines management and leadership into a coherent integrated concept " managers are people who do things right and leaders are people who do the right things and by virtue of their formal role in the sport organization, sports administrators are responsible for empowering subordinates to establish and achieve goals. Management is about coping with complexity and leadership is about coping with changes; both management and leadership are needed for a successful management and good management skills are needed to achieve goals. The extent of their leadership skills will largely dictate the outcomes of their actions with subordinates. The question is what makes an effective leader? The purpose of this paper is to express a perspective regarding managerial leadership, draw a lesson from managerial leadership literature, gain insight from researches about managerial leadership effectiveness and infer from this literature prescriptions for practicing sports administrators. This paper reviews, managerial leadership functions traits and skills, effective managerial leadership styles and challenges.
Journal of Sport Management
It was an inspired decision by the editorial team at the Journal of Sport Management (JSM) to invite proposals to guest edit a special issue on sport leadership. In departing from previous calls, this action targeted a specific topic area (sport leadership, i.e., the topic of leadership in sport management), and, urged scholars to consider new and innovative approaches. For us, this said two things: sport leadership carries major significance for our field, and, we need a 'booster shot' of published research in sport leadership that is a step change in the evolution of leadership scholarship for sport management. The broader aim of the special issue was
A aprovação pelo Congresso norte-americano, enviada à Casa Branca de Obama, sobre a declaração do "genocídio" dos Arménios pelos Turquia na segunda , 2010
As the Ottoman Empire of old was dying, the deportation of Armenians and resettlement of Muslims in their lands was part of a broader project intended to permanently restructure the demographics of Anatolia. It began harshly. Many Armenian homes, businesses, and land were preferentially allocated to Muslims from outside the empire, nomads, and the estimated 800,000 (largely Kurdish) Ottoman subjects displaced because of the ongoing war with Russia. The "cleansing" could hardly by clearer. This was followed by a a series of geographical calculations: Muslims were spread out (and typically limited to 10 percent in any area) among larger Turkish populations so that they would lose their distinctive characteristics, such as the use of non-Turkish languages or nomadism. These migrants were exposed to harsh conditions and, in some cases, violence or restriction from leaving their new villages..The ethnic cleansing of Anatolia—the Armenian genocide, Assyrian genocide, and expulsion of Greeks after World War I—paved the way for the formation of an ethno-national Turkish state. In September 1918, Talaad Pasha emphasized that regardless of losing the war of 1914-1918, he had succeeded at "transforming Turkey to a nation-state in Anatolia". Indeed, the Pasha declared that "We have been blamed for not making a distinction between guilty and innocent Armenians. [To do so] was impossible. Because of the nature of things, one who was still innocent today could be guilty tomorrow. The concern for the safety of Turkey simply had to silence all other concerns. Our actions were determined by national and historical necessity". So, the government decreed that "any Muslim who harboured an Armenian against the will of the authorities would be executed". The genocide is extensively documented in the archives of Germany, Austria, the United States, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom, as well as the Ottoman archives, despite systematic purges of incriminating documents by Turkey. The estimate varies, but consensual that 800,000 to 1,1 million Armenians were killed. Many managed to run out of the moribund Empire, creating an enormous diaspora of Armenians. The numbers are astounding: Intentional, state-sponsored killing of Armenians mostly ceased by the end of January 1917, although sporadic massacres and forced starvation continued. Both contemporaries and later historians have estimated that around 1 million Armenians died during the genocide, with figures ranging from 600,000 to 1.5 million deaths. It has been consensual that between 800,000 and 1.2 million Armenians were deported, and contemporaries estimated that by late 1916 only 200,000 were still alive. As the victorious British Army slowly and then quickly advanced in 1917 and 1918 northwards through the Levant, they liberated around 100,000 to 150,000 Armenians working for the Ottoman military under abysmal conditions, not including those held by Arab tribes. This was by no means all. As a result of the Bolshevik Revolution and a subsequent separate peace with the Central Powers, the Russian army withdrew and Ottoman forces advanced into eastern Anatolia. The First Republic of Armenia was proclaimed in May 1918, at which time 50 percent of its population were refugees and 60 percent of its territory was under Ottoman occupation. Turkey, under Erdogan, continues to deny it ever happened. Albeit the US Congress pressed him, President Barack Obama never accepted to recognize that there was a "genocide". The question I framed in this interview was an attempt to try and map out and perhaps explain “why” Obama should then, as I expected said “no”. He did so in 2010, in 2012, and again in 2015. It was Joe Biden who, in 2021, asserted that yes, the massacres fit the bill of a “genocide”.

This paper argues that to restore the link between economic history and modern India, a different narrative of Indian economic history is needed. An exclusive focus on colonialism as the driver of India's economic history misses those continuities that arise from economic structure or local conditions. In fact, market-oriented British imperial policies did initiate a process of economic growth based on the production of goods intensive in labor and natural resources. However, productive capacity per worker was constrained by low rates of private and public investment in infrastructure, excessively low rates of schooling, social inequalities based on caste and gender and a delayed demographic transition to lower birthrates and the resultant heavy demographic burden placed on physical capital and natural resources.

This article offers a practice perspective on Community Development from the ground up regarding health and well-being. It advocates for a departure from traditional Community Engagement approaches, arguing that they fall short of relocating authority to communities as influential health producers. The author affirms that Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approaches are preferable Community Engagement practices, as they offer more authentic pathways toward community-centred population health and wellbeing. The article concludes that once effective ground-up community development has been initiated supplementary efforts at reform and relief are more likely to have desired and sustained impact.
