LOCUS OF CONTROL AND MARITAL STATUS AS PREDICTOR OF COUNSELLORS' JOB SATISFACTION IN DELTA AND EDO STATES2019 •
This study investigated locus of control and marital status as predictor of counsellors' job satisfaction in Delta and Edo States. The study was guided by nine research questions and nine hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The research design was predictive correlational survey. The population of the study is 359 practising guidance counsellors in all public secondary schools in Edo and Delta states. Delta state has 217 counsellors and Edo state 142 counsellors. The sample of the study was being made up of all practising counsellors in public secondary schools in Secondary schools in Edo and Delta States. Since the population of 359 is small and manageable, the entire population was studied. Two instruments were used to collect data for this study. These are Locus of Control (LOC) and Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (JSQ). The research adopted the three instruments for the study. The researcher and other research assistances administered the instruments through direct delivery method. The researcher with the help of 11 well-trained research assistants, distributed the questionnaire to the respondents and collected completed copies from them. Out of the 359 copies of the questionnaires distributed only 343 (95.5 %) copies were retrieved from the respondents. For data analyses, research question 1-9 was answered using a simple regression analysis. The null hypothesis were tested using simple and multiple analyses. Findings from the study revealed that, self-efficacy is a significant predictor of job satisfaction of secondary school counsellors in Delta and Edo States. It was recommended that since marital status and locus of control are jointly predictors of job satisfaction among secondary school counsellors. Hence, earnest efforts should be made by governments and counselling psychologists to enhance locus of control of counsellors for the purpose of transforming education in Nigeria. Counsellors with internal locus of control are more likely to create and promote conditions and interpersonal networks that nourish and sustain work satisfaction.

This study investigated self-efficacy as predictor of counsellors' job satisfaction in Delta and Edo States. The study was guided by five research questions and three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. These are General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (JSQ). For data analyses, research question 1-2 was answered using aggregate scores while simple regression analysis was used to answer research question 3-5. The null hypothesis were tested using simple analyses. Findings from the study revealed that, self-efficacy is a significant predictor of job satisfaction of secondary school counsellors in Delta and Edo States. Teachers' performance by average in major secondary schools in Awka-south LGA is still relatively low. Thus, there is need to ascertain the influence of teamwork and quality of teaching in the selected schools. The correlational survey research was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 256 public secondary school teachers in Awka-south LGA in Anambra State and the sampling technique adopted was a simple random sampling technique to select 100 respondents for the study. Data was collected by means of questionnaires developed by the researcher. The instrument was titled " Questionnaire on Organisational Culture and Teachers' Performance " (QOCTP). The study was subjected to face and content validation. The reliability of the instrument was 0.747 using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. However, the research question was answered using mean and standard deviation while linear regression was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between teamwork and quality of teaching. It was recommended that management of the various secondary schools should improve on the current reward system in their schools to improve employees' level of performances and commitment to their jobs as well as improve output and also sustain and improve on the level of teamwork or sprit among employees by organizing team building programmes or exercises for the employees.
This study investigated the status of entrepreneurship education in relation to the course contents and mode of delivering in South-South Nigerian tertiary institutions. The study population comprised all the 215 entrepreneurship education lecturers in the target institutions (universities, polytechnics and colleges of education) as at March 2012. No sampling was done because the population size was manageable. Five research questions guided the study while five null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The survey research design was adopted for the study and a 60-item structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The instrument was validated by four experts and tested for its reliability using Cronbach Apha and a reliability value of 0.87 was obtained. Copies of the instrument were administered on 215 entrepreneurship education lecturers and 200 copies were recovered representing about 92.7 percent. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and determine the homogeneity of respondents’ opinions. The null hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Z-Score. The findings revealed that respondents agreed that entrepreneurship education course contents are appropriate for preparing graduates to participate effectively in the world of work but the time and resources are found to be inadequately provided while the lecturers mostly used the orthodox lecture method. Consequently, teaching the course is theory-based at the expense of practical training. Strategies such as academic-industrial synergy, predictive expectancy; a motivational strategy, lecturer’s collegiality, follow-up service, consistent internal monitoring and evaluation were seen to be relevant to enhance effective delivering of the course contents. The respondents did not differ significantly in their opinions in all the null hypotheses tested. Therefore, it was recommended, among others, that authorities of tertiary institutions should make conscious effort to engage in symbiotic relationship between institutions and industries (formal or informal) within their localities in order to use their facilities/equipments for students’ effective practical training throughout their academic programme. It was also recommended that the status of entrepreneurship education should continuously be analysed to ensure focus for appropriate action towards the effective delivering of the course contents to guarantee quality assurance that could boost employment generation.
