The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of school related factors in integration of Information Communication Technology in the management of public secondary schools in Kitui County, Kenya. A descriptive survey research design was used in this study. The study was carried out in 58 public secondary schools in Kitui County that have functional ICT infrastructure. This study used sample size table as proposed by Krejcie and Morgan (1970) whereby 58 principals, 58 senior teachers and 266 assistant teachers from schools that have functional ICT infrastructure were selected. All 16 Sub-county Directors of Education and one County Director of Education were selected for the study. The researcher used questionnaires to collect data from principals, senior teachers and assistant teachers while interview schedule was used to collect data from Sub-county Directors of Education and the County Director of Education in Kitui County. The collected data was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative data analysis approaches whereby both descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Descriptive statistics that were used in this study include percentages and mean. Hypotheses were tested using Pearson’s moment of correlation coefficient and Pearson’s Chi-square tests for independence. The qualitative data were presented in the form of narrative and integrated within the quantitative data. The findings of the study were; there was a strong positive correlation r(50) = 0.842, p<0.05 between computer infrastructure and ICT integration in management of public secondary schools. The study recommended that; The government should increase their supply of computers to all schools as well as building computer laboratories for schools and that all the schools should have internet connections to enable principals and teachers to use ICT in the school. The government should make it compulsory for all schools to integrate ICT in management.
Global investment in ICT to improve teaching and learning in schools have been initiated by many governments. Despite all these investments on ICT infrastructure and professional development to improve education in many countries, ICT adoption and integration in teaching and learning have been limited. Technological revolution in schools has been set by theoretical inadequacies that have kept educational technology at the margins of the established educational system. Although there is an ICT policy for basic education in Kenya, little could be seen in the use of ICT as a pedagogical tool in teaching. The general objective of this study was to assess the effects of ICT integration on the performance of public secondary schools in Mombasa County, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to assess the effect of ICT user skills on performance of public secondary schools in Mombasa County, Kenya, to establish the effect of ICT infrastructure on performance of public secondary schools in Mombasa County, Kenya, to assess the effect of teachers' attitude to ICT on performance of public secondary schools in Mombasa County, Kenya and to assess the effect of managerial support on ICT on the performance of public secondary schools in Mombasa County, Kenya. This study employed a descriptive survey research design. The target population for this study constituted of 101 public secondary schools comprising of 24 Girls' Secondary schools, 12 Boys' Secondary schools and 65 Mixed Secondary schools. Therefore, the target population was 202 respondents comprising of 24 school principals and 24 teachers of computer from girls' schools,12 school principals and 12 teachers of computer from boys' schools, 65 school principals and 65 teachers of computer from mixed' schools. Stratified sampling method was used to select schools to ensure that all different subgroups are adequately represented in the sample. Proportionate sampling was used to select principals and teachers of computer from the sampled schools. The sample size used was 134 respondents comprising of 16 school principals and 16 teachers of computer from girls' schools,8 school principals and 8 teachers of computer from boys' schools, 43 school principals and 43 teachers of computer from mixed' schools. The main data collection tools for this were questionnaires for all the respondents then compiled, sorted, edited, classified and coded into a coding sheet and analysed using a computerized data analysis package known as Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS) version 20. The data was analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistic. The results were presented in graphs, tables, figures and charts. The study concludes teachers develop their competence based on the educational goals they want to accomplish with the help of ICT. The insufficient ICT infrastructure in most of the secondary schools in the region had contributed to the slow integration of ICT in the schools. Teachers' attitude determines the success of initiating and implementing educational technology in school's program and also teachers are fearful of trying new approaches which they perceive might have a negative impact on examination results respectively. Management support in the integration of ICT includes funding, training and provision of required ICT facilities. The study recommends that the educational policy makers should put into considerations various concerns from educational stakeholders so that they bring workable strategies that would serve as lessons for improvement of educational practices. The government should ensure that secondary schools are supplied with necessary ICT infrastructure. There is a need for teachers to have their personal initiatives towards the available digital learning tools so as to enhance the teaching and learning process and their professional development. There should be comprehensive in-service courses and the school management should practice leadership promotion of collaboration and experimentation and teachers dedication to student-centred learning for effective ICT transformation.
The convergence between telecommunication, broadcasting multimedia and related technologies commonly known as Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), promises a fundamental change in educational management. ICT could be the missing tool in improving efficiency of private secondary schools to cope with rapidly changing world to effectively meet management tasks combined with flexibility in learning and administrative activities essential in enhancing efficiency in educational institutions. Little evidence explains effect of ICT in private secondary schools management across the globe. The study investigated effects of ICT in management in private secondary schools in Nairobi. A survey design was adopted with target population of 140 private schools and information was sourced from 40 principals, who were randomly sampled. The study found that the adoption of ICT is high in private schools irrespective of curriculum offered. The use of ICT with schools having installed current hardware and software required for implementation of ICT strategy in management. Findings revealed that use of ICT is more in schools with higher enrollment and having both day and boarding components. Uses of ICT enabled institutions achieve improvements in financial, administrative and instruction management. In financial management 62.5% of schools had automated accounts, 71.9% payroll and 53.1% budgeting operations. In administrative management 68.75% automated stores, 56.25% students' records and 62.50% staff records. In instructional management 53.10% automated timetabling, 84.30% examinations and 76.90% students' progress reports. The study recommends regular training of administrators and staff on emerging technologies in school management, deliberate budgetary allocation to procure hardware and software to support ICT in management and government policy to implement ICT in management at all tiers of the economy.

The Influence of School Administrators Attitude on effective use of ICT in Management of Public Secondary Schools in Uasin-Gishu County in Kenya2022 •
This study was set to determine the strategies of enhancing ICT use in the delivery of services in public secondary schools in Siaya County, Kenya. Although many secondary schools introduced computers in great numbers starting early 1990s, there are limited information on their use to facilitate delivery of services in school administration and management. The extent to which ICT is being used in school management in secondary schools, the types of administrative uses of ICT by school managers and challenges affecting the integration of ICT in the management systems in secondary schools needed to be adequately addressed. This can only be achieved if there are laid down strategies of enhancing ICT use in the delivery of services in public secondary schools in Siaya County. The study was guided by Social Transformation Theory in Education and Visscher (1992) conceptual model of school information system, which were used to show the relationship between variables. The research design that used was descriptive survey. Questionnaires, Interviews and document analysis were used to collect data. The study established that schools were taking several steps to help in enhancing ICT delivery such as looking for grants from the government, prioritizing purchase of ICT equipment and using parents' involvement to buy computers. The study recommends that effort should be made by the government to post and provide teachers skilled in ICT to each school to impart ICT skills to school managers. The study concludes that more support need to be given to schools to enable them achieve their dream of fully implementing the usage of ICT in the management of school activities.

Evaluation of Implementation of the ICT Policy for Education Sector in Public Secondary Schools in Kimilili Sub-County2021 •
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent of implementation of some components of the ICT policy for education sector in public secondary schools in Kimilili Sub-County, Kenya. The components evaluated were capacity building of teachers, ICT infrastructure, digital content use and integration of ICT in teaching and learning. The study examined relationships between ICT integration in teaching and learning and student retention and academic performance in KCSE. The evaluation was guided by Daniel Stufflebeam's CIPP model. Cross-sectional survey research design was adopted. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the study sample, which consisted of 84 Heads of Department (HODs). Data were collected using questionnaires for HODs, Document analysis schedule and an Observation Checklist. Validity of research instrument results was established with the help of research experts. Reliability was established using test re-test technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics involved use of frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations. Inferential statistics made use of simple linear regression. Study findings showed that ICT components evaluated had been implemented only to a small extent. ICT integration in teaching and learning was found to be a strong predictor of school academic performance and student retention in school. The study recommended for full equipment of schools with ICT infrastructure, digital content and conduction of effective capacity building for teachers to acquire ICT skills in pedagogy. Text book authors including KICD that prepares teaching materials should include ICT as a formal approach for teaching which should incorporate ICT integration by fully integrating digital technology in teaching and learning content. ICT integration should be mainstreamed in teaching and learning since it has benefits of improving academic performance and retaining learners in school so as to improve completion rates.
Education is in the process of a major change, where through innovations in technology and teaching methodology, academic institutions are being given an opportunity to work for the benefit of the student.Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can enhance universal access to education, equity, quality and efficiency in education. The use of the computer in curriculum delivery, in particular, promises better and improved methods of educational content delivery, methodology and pedagogical skills as well as expanding the availableteaching and learning knowledge base. Whereas technology cannot replace a teacher in the instructional process, it forms an important and additional resource for both the teacher and the learner to promote interactive and participatory learning. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in teaching and learning are technological tools in form of hardware and software that help communicate, develop, disseminate, store and manage information. This study was conducted to establish schools' preparedness in information communication technology integration in teaching and learning in public secondary schools in Kieni East Sub County, Nyeri County-Kenya. The objectives of the study are to (i) establish E-learning preparedness in teaching and learning in public secondary schools (ii) explore school based efforts in ICT integration in teaching and learning and (iii) investigate challenges facing schools in the development of ICT in public secondary schools. Questionnaires were administered to 39 teachers in public secondary schools. Findings indicated that 77.8% of the male respondents disagreed that schools organized regular training on computers. Theresearchers found that 90.9% of the schools had no usage of the Wikipedia while 80% had the usage the Encarta. Further the study found that 77.7% of the schools had not benefited from the government grants toward E-Learning.Challenes facing the schools included among others lack of skilled personnel to repair and service computer. The study recommends that schools should organise compulsory ICT seminars for teachers especially during school holidays and make ICT literacy training compulsory for all practicing teachers.
