Exploring Vocabulary Learning Strategies of Saudi Female University Students: Perspectives and Use2019 •
Everything students learn, is highlighted by some sort of strategy. This includes students and their vocabulary learning.Vocabulary learning is an essential part in foreign language learning as the meanings of new words are very often emphasized, whether in books or in classrooms. It is also central to language teaching and is of paramount importance to a language learner. There are many factors that can potentially influence vocabulary learning, which makes research on this topic as it relates to English as a foreign language (EFL) vocabulary learning diverse and abundant. This study aims to investigate the effect of a group of Umm Al-Qura University preparatory year (first year) learners' attitude and evaluation of some strategies on their L2 vocabulary learning. It also discusses the effect of the usage of these strategies on EFL learners' learning process.

For a long time now, the teaching and learning of L2 vocabulary has been underrated in second language acquisition (SLA). However, in the last three decades, there has been a reemergence of interest in this field and different proposals and perspectives have arisen that strengthen and encourage due attention. The purpose of this paper was to inquire into the effectiveness of the implementation of an array of vocabulary tasks to facilitate vocabulary acquisition. Three teachers of English at a private secondary school in Mar del Plata, Argentina, participated in this action research. Data were gathered by means of field notes, teaching activities, self-assessment reports and evaluation meetings. The results obtained shed some light on L2 vocabulary teaching and some new viewpoints are discussed that could help other language teachers develop conceptual knowledge to tackle lexical instruction. The decision to embark on this action research study led these three teachers to reflect upon their own teaching practice with regard to L2 vocabulary instruction and thus take cognizance of the importance of the inclusion of L2 vocabulary teaching on a regular basis in their classes. Finally, some suggestions for further research in this area were given.
Vocabulary teaching is an important and indispensable part of any language teaching process. In fact the greatest tools we can give students not only in their education but more generally in life is a large and rich vocabulary. However, most students have difficulties in both understanding the relation between the different parts of a text and in speaking and communicating in English. This research focuses on the vocabulary teaching strategies that EFL teachers use while teaching vocabulary in order to enrich the students’ vocabulary knowledge. In addition, the objective of this work is to explore the different vocabulary learning strategies EFL students use when studying English as a foreign language in order to increase their lexical competence. The method used in this study is quantitative by means of interviews and questionnaires, interview for teachers and questionnaire for students in the Department of Foreign Languages at Ahmed SALHI University center of Naama . A random sample of thirty six students answered the questionnaire and eight teachers answered the interview. The results obtained revealed that EFL teachers use various vocabulary teaching strategies to a high extent and EFL students utilize vocabulary learning strategies to a medium extent.
