One of the core figures of education system is undoubtfully the teacher who is expected to contribute dramatically to the qualified learning environment both with professional skills and with personal characteristics. Therefore, the need for graduate education and its significance to specialize in maintaining education after Bachelor’s degree has increased so far. In this regard, this research aims to determine teachers’ perspectives regarding the implementation of graduate education to their professional performance. The present study has used interview technique as a qualitative research method and semi-structured interview form including seven open-ended questions as a data collection tool. Totally 28 teachers who receive graduate education in educational sciences department at a Turkish state university in the 2015-2016 academic years participated in the study. Research results have revealed that teachers mostly use the courses learning and teaching environment for preparing lesson plans. They also state that they have difficulty in implementing theoretical courses. As for the contributions of graduate education to teachers’ professional performance, teachers mostly believe that they learn how to teach, and the courses that are more effective in their profession are predominantly thinking education, qualitative research methods and teacher training. Considering the extra courses that teachers want to take, it has been noted that foreign language, education, special education and writing an article are the most emphasized courses. Last but not least, teachers mostly feel themselves self-reliant as they enroll in graduate education; moreover, teachers’ most significant reason for enrolling in graduate education is to update information. Keywords: graduate education, teachers’ perspectives, professional performance, contribution to profession
The main goal of this study is to research the impact of enrolment in Graduate Programmes (GPs) on a set of Basic Education 2 and High School 3 teachers in Portugal. We seek to understand whether teachers consider this training as an added value, and the extent to which this is reflected in the improvement of their professional performance, in the schools, and in their students' learning. Preliminary research results show, among other aspects, that the reasons why teachers enrol in GPs are associated mainly with personal fulfilment issues. Moreover, despite the fact that both teachers and school leaders recognize the importance of GPs, they acknowledge that there are still few effects.
The purpose of this case study is to examine the effectiveness of a Secondary Teacher Education Graduate Program. We collected qualitative data through interviews with two graduate school directors, five department heads, 58 faculty members and five students at Ege University. We conducted a descriptive analysis technique on the data. According to the results, there are many problems concerning the program such as high quotas of students, unsatisfactory selection of students, lack of motivation for the program and the courses both among the students and the faculty members, insufficiency of the faculty members in the areas of knowledge and pedagogy, inefficiencies in the management of the courses (especially of the practical courses), lack of specific institutions and persons responsible for the program. Furthermore, the program does not reflect the innovations in teaching and the changes in secondary education. The participants mainly suggested administrative solutions for the program.

Department of Primary Education Students’ Opinions Regarding the Necessity of Graduate Education2014 •
Today, increasing importance of knowledge and not considering teacher as the only source of knowledge, changes the role of teacher dramatically. Teachers need to improve themselves continuously to match the demands of the roles future brings them. To improve oneself as a teacher requires pursuing life-long learning as a principle, and attaining professional skills like providing more student-centered educational conditions and environments to students and contributing to their multi-dimensional development. Higher education, especially graduate education has a great role to help the teacher with this task. The aim of this research is to obtain primary teachers’ opinions regarding the necessity of graduate education. The sample of the research consists of 82 preservice teachers who were enrolled to Dumlupinar University department of primary education during the 2010-2011 academic year. The research using the survey analysis methodology is descriptive in nature. Data were collected t...

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the pre-service elementary teacher education program in Turkey. The study aims to explore how well, as perceived by graduates who have begun working as beginning elementary teachers, the program develops the essential qualities for elementary teachers in the 21st century. Employing criterion and maximum variation sampling strategies, 22 in-service elementary teachers participated in the study. Using phenomenological research design, the data were collected through semi-structured in-depth individual interviews, and this process was supported by a document analysis of the elementary teacher education curriculum. The data were analyzed through content analysis method with the help of NVivo 10 software. Regarding the effectiveness of the program, the participants indicated that the program was relatively ‘less adequate’, ‘somewhat adequate’, or ‘more adequate’ for developing the different domains of certain qualities (e.g., students with special needs, differentiation, and professional development, respectively). The results of the study provide policymakers, curriculum developers, and teacher educators with essential insights into how to improve elementary teacher education to better prepare elementary teachers in the search of raising the quality of teachers and improving teacher education.

Aim of the research is to evaluate the importance to profession of teaching and modern teaching qualities given by the graduates getting undergraduate education in Faculty of Science and Arts and pedagogic training education in terms of different variants. The research was applied to 197 volunteer graduates getting pedagogic training education in University of Sakarya. Data of the research was gathered by the attitude scales of ÖMİT and ÇÖN. The research was conducted with descriptive scanning and relational scanning. The results of data indicate that attitudes about profession of teaching are extensively positive. There is no meaningful difference between attitudes and some variants. As two sidevariance analysis points out, collective effect of parents’ education level is not meaningful about the attitudes. Regression analysis has drawn attention to the fact that the reason about persistence to certificate major program is a significant exposition about attitudes. The importance to...
