ASSISTANCE AFTER LOSS AND SUPPORT IN BEREAVEMENT AS A PASTORAL TASK - ENG2010 •
DRAFT IN ENGLISH _ translation from Polish Published Original Text: Refefences in Polish version of this Article are available here: https://www.academia.edu/105180797/POMOC_PO_STRACIE_I_TOWARZYSZENIE_W_%C5%BBA%C5%81OBIE_JAKO_ZADANIE_DUSZPASTERSKIE Abstract This paper explores the significance of pastoral care in the context of bereavement and mourning within the Polish conditions. It examines the need for changes in attitudes and practical training to better serve those with special needs after the loss of their loved ones. Drawing from the teachings and tradition of the Catholic Church, the historical focus on caring for the "orphan and widows" is revisited. The Encyclical Letter of Pope Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas est, is highlighted for its relevance in understanding the concept of care within the Church. The Hospice Movement, serving as a practical model of integrated care worldwide and in Poland, is presented. Currently, Poland hosts over 400 hospices and palliative care units, primarily managed by volunteers, offering comprehensive support to those in need. In this context, pastoral care becomes an essential component of integrated hospice care. The continuation of the noble tradition of caring for the "orphan and widows" is deemed necessary not only in hospices but also within the pastoral settings of parishes and diocesan structures. To address the question of how to aid those in need within our communities, the paper proposes resources for further studies and practical training for priests, religious individuals, and pastoral assistants.

Contributions of the chaplaincy service to the care of terminal patients2015 •
This study aims to identify chaplains' understanding in relation to spirituality, and to analyze the chaplaincy's contribution in the care of terminal patients. It is exploratory, qualitative research undertaken with seven hospital chaplains in two public hospitals in João Pessoa in the Brazilian state of Paraíba. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were subjected to content analysis. The categories which emerged were: Spirituality in the view of chaplains, and Contributions of the chaplaincy in employing spirituality in the care of the terminal patient. These categories evidenced that the chaplains value the spiritual dimension in their practice, helping the patient to cope with the end-of-life process. It is hoped that this study will provide resources for further investigations, bearing in mind that studies on the chaplaincy and spirituality in the care for the terminal patient remain incipient.

Terminal illnesses are quite painful and thus require proper attention both from the healthcare personnel and the family. The modern developments in therapeutic and care options in trying to reduce the effects of terminal illness have contributed a lot in the rise of the quality of health care among diagnosed patients. Through the procedure, a person may feel frightened and also anxious. This worry has been documented in patients with life-threatening diseases such as cancer, bubonic plague, or dynamic coronary infarction. Stress in between scientific research and belief are much more frequently revealed in western culture. Terminal illnesses are quite painful and thus require proper attention both from the healthcare personnel and the family. This work tries to figure out how people cope with terminal illnesses, emphasizing the importance of the psychosocial and spiritual model in helping patients who have been diagnosed with these kinds of diseases. It was found that only a small number of patients with terminal illness were receiving support from healthcare personnel. This of course suggests that there is limited availability of psychosocial personnel to handle the emotional and spiritual suffering of patients with terminal illness. In the absence of professional health services, patients may sought the support of family and friends. The meaning that patients with cancer attribute to life influences their expectations and their attitudes to the disease and its treatment. Over the centuries, religion has commonly been the answer encoded by the social setting when it came to matters of life and death. The present article analyzes the historical grounds for forms of cooperation between the scientific disciplines that focus on mental health and the approach of religion, centered on the Italian situation. Such cooperation was hard to imagine in the past, but the situation has changed considerably and cooperation is not only possible but extremely desirable. Acknowledgment of their spiritual needs helps patients to battle with their disease. The care of patients should include catering for their spiritual needs by ensuring the constant presence of a chaplain on hospital wards.
