4. | Description | Abstract | In this article, the nature of Spanglish as a Spanish-English contact language in the United States is explored. The common phonological, lexical, and morphosyntactic characteristics of different varieties of Spanglish are presented, and the case for understanding Spanglish as a distinctive and legitimate set of language varieties in the US context is offered. Finally, the role played by raciolinguistic ideologies in the marginalization of Spanglish in the United States will be discussed and critiqued.
