Abstract

In a context where teaching quality is associated with teachers' ability to base their pedagogical practices on research findings, the aim of this study was to explore physical education teachers’ use of research. One hundred and forty (140) teachers working in a school district in the North-East of France completed the “Physical Education Teachers’ Use of Research” questionnaire. Data analysis revealed a positive attitude towards research. However, this attitude does not translate into concrete use of research as teachers have difficulties to identify research that could be useful to them, and struggle to interpret its conclusions. Results also indicated the importance of teaching qualifications and teacher training in physical education teachers’ use of research. Efforts need to be made in initial and in-service training to teach physical education teachers how to use research for the benefit of pedagogical practices that promote student learning.
