AU TEMPS DE LA DIASPORA : LA CONSTRUCTION D’IDENTITÉ DANS LE TESTAMENT FRANÇAIS D’ANDREÏ MAKINE / THROUGHOUT THE TIME OF DIASPORA: THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY IN LE TESTAMENT FRANÇAIS BY ANDREÏ MAKINE
Abstract
L'écrivain d'origine russe Andreï Makine, lauréat du prix Goncourt et du Médicis pour Le testament français (1995), a été élu à l'Académie française en 2016. Parmi les écrivains étrangers qui ont choisi d’écrire en français, Andreï Makine est un de ceux qui expliquent dans leur propre œuvre les raisons de ce choix. À cet égard, Le testament français est un texte clef. Non seulement il donne une orientation pour la lecture de l’ensemble de son œuvre, mais il permet en outre d’approfondir quelques-unes des raisons qui ont pu amener d’autres écrivains étrangers à opter pour la même langue. Cette analyse approfondirait la construction d’identité dans cette œuvre et expliquerait comment Makine répète sa mémoire comme si c’était une litanie rescapée des jeux de l’enfance.
Russian writer Andrei Makine, winner of the Prix Goncourt and the Médicis with the novel Le testament français (1995), was elected to the French Academy in 2016. Among the foreign writers who chose to write in French, Andrei Makine is one of those who explain in their own work the reasons for using nonnative language. That’s why Le testament français plays an important role in the French diasporic literature. He not only provides guidance for reading all of his work, but it also allows to deepening some of the reasons that have led other foreign writers to choose the same language. In this paper, we will try to analyze the question of self-identity in this novel, so as to figure out how Makine rewrites his childhood as if he was a litany survivor in the diasporic life.
