Abstract

The development of technology and innovation has a strong impact on tourism. Information and communication technology is used to increase the tourist revenue and thus it is used as the means of communication between accommodation providers and guests.  Private accommodation providers use it to promote their own tourist apartments The question is whether private accommodation providers have a sufficient level of digital literacy and knowledge of a foreign language that would make it easier for them to promote their units and communicate with potential guests. Digital literacy and foreign language workshops can help in raising digital and language competencies. The research was conducted in the Municipality of Okrug Gornji on the island of Čiovo from February 2019 to April 2019. N=278 private accommodation providers participated in the survey. The aim of the research is to show that education of private accommodation providers in foreign language and digital literacy organized by the municipality contributed to the increase of tourist revenue. The results indicate that it is necessary to continue investing in the education of private accommodation providers (especially the elderly). Respondents stated that this type of education makes it easier for them to find suitable media for advertising their accommodation and increases occupancy rates.
