DISCOURS PRÉMONITOIRES DE SIMON KIMBANGU SUR LA MISSION LIBÉRATRICE DE L'HOMME NOIR ET DE L'AFRIQUE (1895-1921) : HERMÉNEUTIQUE DES RÉCITS ET GESTES PROPHÉTIQUES

Jean-Charles Bazangika Basakinina

Abstract

This article examines Simon Kimbangu's premonitory discourses between 1895 and 1921 within the colonial context of the Belgian Congo. Through oral narratives, prophetic songs, and symbolic gestures, it highlights a hermeneutics of liberation that transcends the religious sphere to address political, cultural, and memorial issues. The study demonstrates that these accounts, transmitted by Kinzembo, Nsumbu, and Tuvumana, constitute a counter-memory against colonial discourses denying Africa's historicity. They anticipate a liberating mission for Black people, Africa, and Congo-Kinshasa, culminating on April 6, 1921, with the proclamation of Nkamba as the "New Jerusalem." Using a multidisciplinary approach (cultural history, religious studies, anthropology of memory), the research underscores the scientific relevance of a hermeneutical reading of Kimbanguist narratives.
