SOUTIEN SOCIAL REÇU, NIVEAU D’ASPIRATION ET RÉSILIENCE SCOLAIRE CHEZ DES DÉFICIENTS AUDITIFS DE L’ÉCOLE IVOIRIENNE POUR LES SOURDS (ECIS) / SOCIAL SUPPORT RECEIVED, LEVEL OF ASPIRATION AND ACADEMIC RESILIENCE AMONG HEARING-IMPAIRED PUPILS AT THE IVORIAN SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF (ECIS)
Abstract
People with disabilities, and particulary those with hearing impairment, face daily challenges that affect their quality of life and hinder their participation in social life. During schooling, a period of learning and socialization, the impact of disability is important. This resarch, conducted with male and female students presented hearing impairment (n=56), aged 9 to 17 years, and enrolled at the Ivorian School for the Deaf (ECIS), based on the resilience tutor model proposed by Cyrulnick (2003). The paper examined the relationship between social support received, aspiration level, and academic resilience. The data, collected using a questionnaire assessing participants' social support, aspiration level, and academic resilience, reveal three main findings. First, a significant relationship exists between social support received and academic resilience. Second, a strong relationship is highlighted between aspiration level and academic resilience. Furthermore, the results indicate that perceived social support and aspiration level interact jointly, in a strong and positive manner, to foster resilient behaviors among students with hearing impairments. These findings confirm the initial hypothesis and align with previous research in this area. In conclusion, the results of this study recommend strengthening the social resources and personal expectations of hearing-impaired students in order to better support them in their adaptation and academic success process.
